SERIES UPDATE: In what was originally scheduled as a three-day series beginning Friday, Ball State and Morehead State will now play one game Saturday and one game Sunday . . . Inclement weather forced the move of Friday's game to Monday, and forced the cancellation of Saturday's contest.
SCOUTING BALL STATE: The Cardinals are 3-4 overall after going 2-2 last weekend in four games in Nashville, Tenn. . . . Ball State tallied wins over Bradley (7-4) and Lipscomb (6-2) and suffered losses to Northwestern (5-2) and Bradley (13-9).
SCOUTING MOREHEAD STATE: The Eagles are 4-5 on the season after suffering a 13-4 loss at the nation's No. 4 ranked Louisville Tuesday . . . Morehead State has victories over Alabama A&M (11-0), IPFW (11-6), Indiana State (6-5) and Gardner Webb (5-3) . . . Alan Mochabee leads the team with a .361 batting average in nine contests, while Taylor Pickens is hitting at a .333 pace.

NEXT UP: The three-game series at Morehead State Sunday through Monday is the beginning of the Cardinals' spring trip . . . Ball State will remain on the road for five games in six days from March 5-10.
CODY CAMPBELL LIKES NASHVILLE: Cody Campbell managed a .471 batting average in Ball State's four games in Nashville, Tenn., over the weekend . . . He was 8-for-17 with four runs-batted-in, four runs scored, one double and one triple . . . Campbell managed a .647 slugging percentage in the four games and helped the Cardinals to a 2-2 mark in Nashville . . . Campbell leads the team with a .393 batting average in seven games this season and his .571 slugging percentage is tops among Ball State's regular players.
BILLY WELLMAN OFF TO GOOD START: Billy Wellman, a junior infielder, batted .400 in Ball State's four games in Nashville, Tenn., last weekend . . . Wellman was 4-for-10 with four runs-batted-in, three runs scored and one double . . . He is batting .294 on the season and leading the team with seven RBI . . . He was second on the team with 26 RBI while scoring 10 runs as a sophomore in 2012 . . . Wellman tied for the team lead with four home runs while posting seven doubles to lead the team with a .510 slugging percentage in 2012 . . . He had nine multiple-hit games and a team-high seven multiple-RBI games last season.
DEVARIE SOPHOMORE SEASON: Elbert Devarie, a sophomore, tallied a .364 batting average in Ball State's four games in Nashville, Tenn. . . . Devarie was 4-for-11 with three runs-batted-in, two runs scored and one triple. . . . He appeared in 41 games, including 39 starts, as a freshman in 2012 . . . Devarie made 20 starts at third base, 15 at shortstop and four at second base last season . . . He posted a .206 batting average as a freshman.
BEEMER READY FOR SENIOR SEASON: Blake Beemer, a senior outfielder/first baseman, batted .353 in Ball State's four games over the weekend in Nashville, Tenn. . . . He was 6-for-17 with three runs-batted-in and four runs scored . . . Beemer finished fourth on the team with a .282 batting average, driving in 14 runs while scoring 13, in 2012 . . . Beemer ended the season reaching base in a career-high 11 straight games from April 29-May 19, and he has now reached base in 17 of his last 18 games.
TOP HITTER RETURNS: Sean Godfrey, a junior outfielder, led Ball State with a .328 batting average as he posted 43 hits in 131 at-bats in 2012 . . . He was second on the team with 24 runs scored while driving in 18 runs . . . Godfrey led the team with 13 stolen bases in 15 attempts . . . He posted a team-high 10 doubles while also hitting a home run and a triple . . . Godfrey was second on the team with a .443 slugging percentage . . . He tallied eight multiple-hit games and three multiple-RBI games last season.
MARANGON'S PITCHING PERFORMANCES: Chris Marangon, a senior right handed pitcher, started in the Cardinals season opener at Middle Tennessee State and had no decision after pitching 6.1 innings, allowing only four hits and no earned runs . . . In his second start, Marangon got the win vs. Bradley (Feb. 22) in Nashville, Tenn. . . . He pitched six innings, allowing four runs and striking out two . . . Marangon is 1-0 with a 2.92 earned-run average this season on a team-high 12.1 innings pitched . . . He started the 2012 season in the bullpen and moved into the weekend rotation during Mid-American Conference play . . . Marangon held opponents to a team-low .222 batting average, which ranked third-lowest in the MAC last season.
BAKER EARNS SECOND WIN OF SEASON: Scott Baker tallied his second victory of the season after pitching five innings and allowing only two earned runs, while striking out three in Ball State's win Saturday at Lipscomb . . . The victory was the 600th career win for head coach Rich Maloney . . . Baker improved to 2-0 with a 2.25 earned-run average . . . He leads the Cardinals with 11 strikeouts on the season.
CLAY MANERING ENTERS ROTATION: Clay Manering has appeared in three games this season and owns a 1.35 earned-run average with an 0-1 record . . . He is scheduled to start the second game of the series at Morehead State this weekend . . . Manering pitched 5.1 innings vs. Northwestern Friday and allowed only three hits with no earned runs, while striking out five batters.
BULLPEN SHOWING POSITIVE SIGNS: Jon Cisna and Matt Johnsen both had postive appearances out of the bullpen for the Cardinals in their four games in Nashville, Tenn., last weekend . . . Cisna has made three appearances for Ball State and owns a 1.50 earned-run average . . . He tallied his first save of the year at Lipscomb (Feb. 23) after pitching four innings, allowing only one hit and no runs while striking out two . . . Johnsen made his first appearance of the season vs. Bradley (Feb. 24) and pitched two innings, allowing no earned runs and striking out three batters.
WINKLE RECEIVES SOME PRESEASON CONSIDERATION: Wes Winkle, a senior outfielder, was named to the College Sports Madness Preseason All-Mid-American Conference Second Team . . . Winkle played in 46 games last season as a junior outfielder and finished third on the team with a .307 batting average . . . He led the Cardinals with 58 hits, primarily from the leadoff position in the lineup . . . Winkle led Ball State with 30 runs scored, while driving in 13 runs in 2012 . . . He posted seven doubles and two triples and was second on the team with 12 stolen bases.
