Gymnasts Win Three Way Meet to Improve to 4-2

Ball State's gymnastics team improved to 4-2 with wins over Penn and Centenary in a home meet at Irving Gym.

The Cardinals tallied a 193.800 team score, while Penn managed a 189.625 and Centenary scored a 187.550.  Ball State won each individual event in the meet, and Brittney Emmons won the all-around with a 38.975 mark.

"It was great to get two more wins and keep the momentum going as we head back into Mid-American Conference action," Ball State head coach Nadalie Walsh says.  "I was proud of the team and their energy.  Even after we made a mistake or two, we did not get down and we kept improving and moving forward.  We are looking forward to the next couple meets because we feel good about where we are headed."

The Cardinals took the top six spots in the vault, led by Brooke Evans and Nicole Allen, who tied for first with a 9.825.  Brittney Emmons was third with a 9.75, while Denasiha Christian finished fourth with a 9.725.  Erin Patchey and Miranda Kerr tied for fifth with a pair of 9.70's.

Ball State's team score of 48.825 on the vault tied for the fifth best score in school history.

The Cardinals managed to take three of the top four spots on the bars with Emmons placing first with a 9.85 and Angie Hosbach finishing second with a 9.825.  Angela Durkac was fourth with a 9.75.

Samantha Santos claimed the individual title on the beam with a 9.80, while Leah Wilson was third with a 9.675.

On Ball State's final event of the evening, the Cardinals took the top three spots on the floor

Christian won with a 9.85, while Emmons was second with a 9.775 and Brooklyn Schumacher tallied a 9.725 to place third.

The Cardinals return to action Feb. 9 at Eastern Michigan in a 7 p.m. MAC meet.
