Majok's Winning Dunk Moves on as Top Play Finalist
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Majok Majok's buzzer-beating dunk against Norfolk State beat out its competition in this week's GEICO Play of the Year fan voting and will be one of eight finalists for the award to be handed out at the end of the season.
The play will be featured in Best of College Basketball on CBS April 6 and will have a chance to be named Play of the Year. The round of voting for the final eight will begin on March 11.
Each week for the remainder of the season, four plays will be up for voting with the winner moving on as a finalist. This was week two with Majok's game-winner getting the nod.
With time dwindling and the Cardinals trailing by one Jan. 2 against Norfolk State, Jesse Berry drove hard to the paint and scooped a pass to Majok. The big man sprang off the floor and slammed home a dunk mere moments before the buzzer sounded to lift Ball State to a 62-61 win.
The play beat out a fastbreak dunk by NC State's C.J. Leslie, a blocked shot by Florida's Patric Young and a game-winning 3-pointer by South Dakota State's Chad White in this week's voting.
The week one winner was Butler's Alex Barlow for hitting a shot in the lane to defeat Indiana earlier this season. That play and Majok's will be finalists along with six more plays to be determined over the rest of the season.
