MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State men’s volleyball team is off for its second consecutive weekend on the road, this time traveling to North Carolina to take on Mount Olive and Barton. The Cardinals have started the season 3-0, the best start to the season since 2006.

The Cardinals picked up two road wins last weekend over NJIT (29-27, 28-26, 20-25, 25-16) and Sacred Heart (25-18, 25-27, 25-16, 29-27). BSU is leading the MIVA in five of the seven statistical categories: opponent hitting percentage (.102), assists (12.36 assists per set), kills (13.18 kills per set), blocks (3.68 blocks per set) and digs (12.55 digs per set).

Four Cardinals are also at the top of the conference in individual statistics. Junior middle attacker and MIVA Defensive Player of the Week Matt Leske is the top blocker in the conference with 1.91 blocks per set. Senior outside attacker Greg Herceg leads the MIVA in kills (4.30 kills per set) and points (5.20 points per set). Junior libero Tommy Rouse registers 3.45 digs per set, while classmate Graham McIlvaine notches 10.73 assists per set.

Mount Olive has started the season with a 4-0 record with wins over Erskine, Barton, Quincy and King College. They are led offensively by Andreas Lengler who gets 3.17 kills per set. The Trojans are holding their opponents to a .168 clip. Friday’s match will mark the second time these two programs have squared off. They last met at Worthen Arena last season where the Cardinals earned a 3-0 sweep.

Barton is 0-2 this season, having dropped contests to Mount Olive and Erskine. Barton is led offensively by the trio of Chandler Thomas, Cameron Hudson and Zach McCalla who have notched 14, 13 and 12 kills this season respectively. Saturday’s match will mark the first time these two programs have met.

The match with Mount Olive is set to start at 7 p.m. on Friday, while Saturday’s match with Barton is set for noon. Both matches will have live video and statistics.
