Leske Earns MIVA Defensive Player of the Week

MUNCIE, Ind. – Junior middle attacker Matt Leske has been named the MIVA Defensive Player of the Week after his performance over this past weekend against NJIT and Sacred Heart. This is the second nod of Leske’s career.

Leske had two solo blocks in both contests this past weekend as well as a combined 12 assisted blocks. His eight assisted blocks in the 3-1 win over Sacred Heart tied a career high. The preseason All-MIVA team recipient had a 2.00 blocks per set average in the two matches. In addition, Leske had 12 kills in both matches and registered a .455 (7-2-11) hitting percentage against Sacred Heart. The junior leads the Cardinals in blocking, with 1.91 blocks per set so far this season.

The Highwood, Ill., native last earned the MIVA Defensive Player of the Week on March 19, 2012.

Leske and the Cardinals return to action next weekend when they take on Mount Olive on Friday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m., and Barton on Saturday, Jan. 26 at noon.
