Women's S&D Falls to Eastern Michigan 158-142

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State women’s swimming and diving team dropped a 158-142 dual meet to MAC foe Eastern Michigan Saturday afternoon at Lewellen Aquatics Center. The Cardinals earned two relay wins as well as six individual wins.

The meet began with the 200 medley relay team where Katelyn Pratt, Bridgette Ruehl, Haley Richter and Carlena Magley turned in a season-best time of 1:44.47 for first place, which ranks fourth all-time in program history. The team of Larah Beaver, Stacey Wierman, Mallory Miles and Jillian Bischoff came in second.

The 1000 free was up next where Cheyanne Jackson turned in a 10:46.70 for fourth place. Leighann Mattson and Kayla Hussey rounded out the event with times of 10:57.91 and 11:05.66, respectively.

Richter earned an individual win in the 200 free, swimming a personal-best time of 1:52.26. That clocking comes in sixth in program history. Magley touched at 1:57.00 for fifth, while Elaine Pitsas came in sixth with a clocking of 2:02.25.

The Cardinals continued the winning streak in the 100 back, with Pratt swimming a season-best time of 57.66. Beaver came in third with a 58.90, while Jackie Iglesias turned in a season-best time of 59.77 for fifth place.

Ruehl continued her winning ways in the 100 breast, earning a season-best with a time of 1:03.76. Wierman touched at 1:06.34 for second place, while Cori Vormohr earned fifth with a clocking of 1:07.84.

Mallory Miles stretched out in the final stroke of the 200 fly to secure second place with a season-best time of 2:06.53. Emily Wisolek turned in a season-best for fifth place at 2:07.82, while Hussey finished in 2:18.96 for sixth.

In the 50 free, Jillian Bischoff earned second with a time of 24.25. Mallory Przybylinski finished right behind in third at 24.79, while Pitsas touched at 25.36 for fifth.

Magley would earn another win for the Cardinals in the 100 free with a time of 52.27. Wisolek turned in a season-best 52.92 for second place, while Pitsas finished sixth at 55.29.

In the 200 back, Pratt earned second with a time of 2:06.06. Beaver and Iglesias would round out the event with times of 2:12.14 and 2:13.41 respectively.

The 200 breast was primed to be an exciting race on paper and it did not disappoint. Coming into the meet, EMU had swum the second and third-fastest times in the MAC this season. Ruehl earned a victory, clocking in at 2:20.57. Wierman turned in a season-best time of 2:23.79 for third, while Sumaiyah Ahmad broke her personal-best by nearly two seconds to earn fourth for the Cardinals with a time of 2:24.11.

Jackson turned in a season-best in the 500 free with a time of 5:11.29. Mattson and Hussey would round out the event with times of 5:20.86 and 5:30.65.

Richter earned her second event win, clocking a season-best 54.73 in the 100 fly. Miles also turned in a season-best in the event, coming in second at 56.68. Wisolek earned fifth with a time of 57.80.

In the 200 IM, Miles and Pratt finished in third and fourth place with times of 2:10.20 and 2:11.66. Ahmad earned sixth place with a season-best time of 2:17.03.

The 400 free relay team of Richter, Wisolek, Bischoff and Magley turned in a season-best time of 3:29.26 to capture first place. BSU would also come in third and sixth with times of 3:34.55 and 3:41.66.

In the diving competitions, Madie Zirzow came in third place in the 1-meter with a score of 240.60, while Natalie Grissom earned fifth with a mark of 223.05. In the 3-meter the two finished fourth and fifth with scores of 249.90 and 235.95, respectively.
