Track & Field Concludes Action At Gladstein Invite

   BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - - The Ball State indoor track & field team's student-athletes added five more career-best efforts on the final day of the Gladstein Invitational hosted by Indiana, to finish the two-day event with 15 career marks.

   Leading the way on the final day of competition was senior MaryKate Mellen, who clocked in with a career-fast time of 2:16.56 to place fourth overall in the 800m run. Freshman Danielle Dahl added a career-best of her own in the race, placing 13th with a time of 2:20.37.

   Freshman Christa Hammond opened the second day of competition with a career-best sprint of 26.68 to place 18th overall in the 200m dash.

   In the weight throw, redshirt freshman Marie Lumpkin and true freshman Michaela Hull added career-best tosses of 14.90m (20th) and 11.87m (32nd), respectively.

   The Ball State indoor track and field team returns to action Saturday, Jan. 26, when it competes in the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational in Marion, Ind.

   BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - -  Ball State's indoor track and field student-athletes combined to post 10 career-best performances on the opening day of the Gladstein Invitational hosted by Indiana at the Gladstein Field House.

   Leading the way for the Cardinals was freshman distance runner Katelyn DeVries who became the first BSU student-athlete to post a Mid-American Conference Indoor Championship qualifying time this season by placing sixth overall in the 5000m run with a career-fast time of 17:30.74.

   Senior MaryKate Mellen followed close behind, placing ninth in the 5000m run by crossing the finish line in 17:40.89. The effort was also a career-best for Mellen, and a little over seven seconds behind the MAC Indoor Championships qualifying standard of 17:33.47.

   BSU's twin duo of sophomores Caitlynn Edon and Courtney Edon would each tally career-best 3000m runs to continue the team's success in the distance events. In the first 3000m run of the day, Caitlynn Edon placed seventh with a career-fast clocking of 10:23.38. Several events later, her twin sister Courtney Edon placed 17th in the 3000m invitational run by crossing the finish line in 10:12.95.

   All three of BSU's runners in the 400m dash turned in career-best efforts with junior Hannah Lange clocking in at 58.49 to place 10th overall. Freshmen Katie Behrendt and Becca Kropf followed with career-best times of 1:02.23 (27th) and 1:04.09 (37th), respectively.

   In the 60m dash prelims, freshman Christa Hammond led the BSU squad and placed 32nd overall with a time of 8.09.

   Redshirt freshman Marie Lumpkin would tally BSU's first career-best effort of the day with a shot put throw of 11.11m to place 32nd, while sophomore Hannah Ciasto-Poor cleared a career-best height of 3.30m in the pole vault.

   Action in the two-day Gladstein Invitational continues Saturday at 11 a.m. with finals in the weight throw and 200m dash.
