MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team will open the 2013 spring season at Big Ten foe Northwestern for the fourth straight season Sunday at 11 a.m. (EST).
Head Coach Bill Richards begins his 41st season at the helm of the Cardinals. Ball State posted an 18-10 overall record in the spring of 2012, including a 3-2 Mid-American Conference mark.
The Cardinals return seven letterwinners from last year's squad, while welcoming one newcomer, Imanol Arconda from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Ball State returns sophomore Ray Leonard who received First Team All-Mid-American Conference honors as a true freshman. The Cardinals also welcome back senior Dalton Albertin who was honored last season by the MAC for the third straight year, collecting named Second Team All-MAC accolades.
Ball State will face a total of four Big Ten opponents this season, Northwestern, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan State. The Cardinals schedule is also highlighted by a three match series at UNLV (Mar. 7-9) where they will face UNLV, UC-Irvine and Air Force Academy. Ball State will also host Notre Dame at Cardinal Creek Tennis Court April 1. BSU opens its Mid-American Conference slate at home against Northern Illinois April 6 before moving onto the MAC Championship April 25-27.
