MUNCIE, Ind. -- Three Ball State soccer players were tabbed to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team as announced Monday by the league office.

A trio of defenders -- Skylar Chew, Pavla Benyrova and Brigit Reder -- was named to the team, while 10 other Cardinals earned honorable mention honors to give Ball State a total of 13 players recognized.

Chew, Benyrova and Reder combined to start every game and play all but 55 minutes in the field this year, anchoring a Ball State back line that allowed fewer than five shots on goal per game and helped the Cardinals post five shutouts on the season.

Chew recently became the first Ball State soccer player ever to earn first-team Academic All-America honors. Now a three-time Academic All-MAC selection, she graduated Saturday with a 4.0 GPA in psychology. The Mason, Ohio, product scored two goals, including one game-winner, and recorded one assist from her back line position this year.

Benyrova, a native of Prague, Czech Republic, owns a 3.83 GPA as a general studies major. She recently completed her final season with the Cardinals as a second-team All-MAC selection and a second-team Academic All-District choice. Benyrova scored one goal, a game-winner, and assisted on three others in 2012.

Reder joins Chew as a three-time Academic All-MAC honoree. The West Chester, Ohio, product owns a 3.94 GPA as a special education major. In addition to being one of the top defenders in the MAC, Reder finished her career seventh on Ball State's career goals scored list with 11.

In order to be nominated for Academic All-MAC recognition, student-athletes must have a GPA of at least 3.2 and participate in at least 50 percent of their team's games. From the nominations, the team is selected by a vote of the league's faculty athletics representatives.

In addition to the three Ball State players named to the team, the following 10 Cardinals earned honorable mention recognition: Alyssa Ables, Maggie Brown, Sarah Orisich, Victoria Jacobs, Maimee Morris, Nicole Pembleton, Kelsey Shapiro, Cailey Starck, Paige Stroinski and Shaniece Thorpe.
