Ruehl Earns Two Wins, Women's S&D Finish Third

INDIANAPOLIS – The women’s swimming and diving team narrowly missed finishing in second place at the House of Champions, hosted by IUPUI. Junior Bridgette Ruehl (Lowell, Ind./Lowell) led the way for the Cardinals with two individuals wins.

The University of Wisconsin – Green Bay won the event with 1,803 points. The University of Evansville finished second with 1,574 points, while Ball State came in third with 1,571 points.

Ruehl was the lone Cardinal to claim an individual win at the three-day event. She swam a 1:04.91 in the 100 breast and a 2:20.36 in the 200 breast.

The Cardinals had strong showings in the relays with the 200 medley, 400 free and 800 free relays earning second place. The 200 medley team of freshman Larah Beaver (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown), Ruehl, junior Haley Richter (Roanoke, Ind./Columbia City) and sophomore Carlena Magley (Waterloo, Ind./DeKalb) finished in 1:45.56. The 400 free team of senior Jillian Bischoff (Atlanta, Ind./Hamilton Heights), junior Emily Wisolek (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge), Richter and Magley combined for a 3:29.97 effort, while the 800 free team of Richter, Wisolek, Magley and Bischoff touched at 7:41.15.

Richter came in second in the 100 fly with a time of 55.69 in the finals. In the 200 fly, Richter finished third in the finals at 2:06.91. Wisolek finished sixth in the finals and clocked her fastest time of the meet in the preliminaries at 2:10.62. Junior Mallory Miles (Holland, Ind./Southridge) earned seventh in the finals with a time of 2:12.80 after swimming a 2:11.54 in the preliminaries.

Senior Katelyn Pratt (Greenville, Ohio/Greenville) earned third overall in the 100 back finals with a time of 58.27. Beaver earned a top-10 finish after clocking a 59.17 for sixth place. Junior Jackie Iglesias (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) touched in 1:00.18 for ninth place. In the 200 back, Pratt swam a 2:05.18 for third place, while Beaver improved nearly five seconds from her preliminary time with a 2:09.79 for ninth place. Iglesias also improved from her morning swim to clock a 2:11.11 in the finals for 17th place.

In the 100 breast, junior Stacey Wierman (Munster, Ind./Munster) finished in fourth in the finals at 1:06.09, while junior Sumaiyah Ahmad (Lowell, Ind./Lowell) came in sixth with a time of 1:07.59. Senior Cori Vormohr (Portland, Ind./Jay County) earned 10th place (1:08.57) while senior Dana Graunke (Colgate, Wis./Germantown) finished 14th (1:11.02). In the 200 breast, Wierman finished fourth at 2:24.94. Ahmad came in ninth (2:26.28) and Vormohr earned 10th (2:10.81).

In the 100 free, all four Cardinals improved their times from the preliminaries to the finals. Magley finished third at 51.93, while Bischoff earned ninth with a time of 53.13. Sophomore Elaine Pitsas (Munster, Ind./Munster) turned in a 55.54 for 13th place, while Graunke earned 18th with a time of 56.73. In the 200 free, Wisolek earned third with a time of 1:54.25 and Bischoff came in fourth at 1:54.35. Magley turned in a 1:56.91 in the finals for 11th. Junior Cheyanne Jackson (Atlanta, Ind./Hamilton Heights) finished 14th in the finals at 2:00.18 and Pitsas was right behind in 15th at 2:00.93.

Sophomore Kayla Hussey (Goshen, Ind./Goshen) came in second in the 1650 free with a time of 18:01.75. Jackson finished ninth overall with a time of 18:10.78, while sophomore Leighann Mattson (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) earned 16th at 18:50.60.

In the 400 IM, Pratt was the highest-finishing Cardinal with a time of 4:37.79 for fourth place. Miles came in eighth (4:46.25), Hussey earned 14th (4:48.19) and Mattson finished 20th (4:48.97).

In the 3M diving, freshman Madie Zirzow (Crown Point, Ind./Homestead) finished second in the finals with a mark of 248.20, while senior Natalie Grissom (Franklin, Ind./Franklin) turned in a 236.50 in the finals for fourth place.
