CHARLESTON, Ill. – The men’s swimming and diving team captured a 169-93 win over the Eastern Illinois Redbirds Friday evening. The Cardinals captured first place in 13 events with senior Michael Weber (Lorain, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) leading the way with three individual victories.
Weber came in first in the 100 and 200 back with times of 58.71 and 1:56.32 respectively. He also claimed first in the 200 IM touching at 1:56.75.
Junior Michael Oaks (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) swept the 100 and 200 free with times of 48.07 and 1:46.16. In the 100 and 200 breast, junior Joseph Morris (South Bend, Ind./Clay) came out on top in both with times of 58.71 and 2:11.72. Junior Drew Tharp took the 100 fly (51.85) and 200 fly (1:54.45).
In the distance swims, sophomore Andy Lamb (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) took the 500 free in 4:53.60 and the 1000 free in 10:11.13.
The 200 medley relay team of Weber, Morris, Tharp and Oaks came in first place with a time of 1:36.35. The 400 free relay team finished in 3:13.28 to also bring home first place points for the Cardinals.
The men’s swimming and diving team is next in action next Friday and Saturday as it hosts the Doug Coers Invitational at the Lewellen Aquatics Center. Check ballstatesports.com for more news and updates on men’s swimming and diving.
