EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Ball State women's tennis team ended its three day competition at the Auto Owners Spartan Invitational Sunday afternoon at Michigan State.

"The team had a successful weekend and I was really pleased with their efforts.," said head coach Christine Bader.  "We had a great showing in doubles, especially with Kristel Sanders and Lauren Pickrel winning their doubles flight. In singles we did a great job of winning 3rd sets. We will get back to work this week to get ready for our next event, Regionals at Purdue University."

Due to inclement weather the invitational was moved indoors which only allowed the teams to play their main draw matches.  The Cardinals twosome of senior Lauren Pickrel and junior Kristel Sanders were crowned champions after winning their doubles flight C bracket after an 8-4 win against IPFW's Marcy Huck and Kristine Lindal.

In singles action true freshman Courtney Earnest recorded a big victory over host Michigan State's Emily Meyers in a third set breaker 10-1.

The Ball State women's team will compete in the ITA Ohio Valley Regional (Oct. 18-21) which will be held in West Lafayette, Ind.
