Field Hockey Falls to No. 16 Ohio State, 9-1
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ball State field hockey team (3-10, 0-3 MAC) dropped a 9-1 decision to No. 16 Ohio State Sunday afternoon. Senior Marisa Weachter (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) scored her second goal of the season.
"We had to make some adjustments today due to an injury before the game," said head coach Beth Maddox. "Our girls stepped up and did the best they could. While the scoreboard said one thing, we know that there were several small victories for us today."
Weachter scored off a rebound into the right side of the cage in beginning seconds of the second half. Leanne Goldblatt (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Lakeland) and Bianca Velez (Virginia Beach, Va./Floyd E. Kellam) each recorded a defensive save.
Freshman Maddi Elliott (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) made 14 saves in her 70 minutes of action.
The Cardinals were outshot by the Buckeyes 43-3. Ohio State also had 16 penalty corner opportunities to Ball State's one attempt.
Mona Frommhold and P. Pastor-Pitarque each scored three goals for the Buckeyes, while Peanut Johnson registered two assists.
Ball State will next have a split weekend, traveling to Kent State for a 1 p.m. game on Saturday, Oct. 13 before coming back to Muncie to host Appalachian State in the Cardinal Varsity Club Day at noon on Sunday, Oct. 14.
