MUNCIE, Ind. - The women's swimming and diving team competed in its first competitive meet of the year in the Red & White Meet. All of the swimmers were able to swim every stroke as well as an individual medley. The divers completed half of their set at both the 1M and 3M.
"I was impressed by today's results," said head coach Kristy Castillo. "The team is pretty tired right now, but we were able to race hard and swim some impressive times. Their performances on the boards and off the blocks should give them confidence and motivation as we continue with our training and focus our next contest."
Juniors Haley Richter (Roanoke, Ind./Columbia City) and Bridgette Ruehl (Lowell, Ind./Lowell) each won two races. Richter won the 100 yard butterfly and the 100 freestyle. Ruehl clocked the fastest time in the 100 breaststroke and the 200 IM. Freshman Larah Beaver (Yorktown, Ind./Yorktown) won the 100 yard backstroke .
Sophomore Jamie Denlinger (Elkhart, Ind./Northridge) scored 120.97 in the 1M diving competition, while Natalie Grissom (Franklin, Ind./Franklin) notched a 119.02 in the 3M distance.
The women's swimming and diving team will open up the regular season at Purdue when it competes in the Indiana Intercollegiate on Oct. 20. Check ballstatesports.com for more news and updates on women's swimming and diving.
