Field Hockey Drops a 3-2 Decision to Saint Louis
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team (2-7) dropped a 3-2 decision to Saint Louis Sunday afternoon at the BSU Turf Field at the Briner Sports Complex. Tarel Teach (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) and Natalie Jardell (Granville, Ohio/Granville) scored goals for the Cardinals.
"We just didn't come out and execute today," said head coach Beth Maddox. "We didn't have a good second half and made some bad decisions."
The first half was another defensive battle for the Cardinals. The Billikens had 11 shots with Maddi Elliott (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) making six saves. Elliott did not allow a goal in 35 minutes of action, the first time all season she did not allow a goal in a half.
Ball State got on the board first with Teach getting an assist from Allie White (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) into the left corner of the box. The score would stay 1-0 heading into halftime.
Saint Louis got on the board early in the second half, with Tori Lycett going one-on-one with Shelby Henley (Novi, Mich./Novi). Twenty four seconds later Jardell put a goal in the back of the box with White getting her second assist of the season.
The Billikens got two more goals from Lexi Lindblad and Corrine Murphy to capture its first win of the season to go 1-9.
Henley was credited with the loss and goes 1-2 on the season.
