Women's Tennis Defeats Toledo in MAC Tournament
DEKALB, Ill. - The No. 9 Ball State University women's tennis team captured a 4-3 victory over No. 8 Toledo, Thursday afternoon at the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
The Cardinals fell early on in doubles action on court one after Courtney Wild and Ashlyn Rang fell 8-1 to Kelsey Anonsen and Lexy Pitt. Ball State's No. 2 doubles tandem of Paola Rodriguez and Sarah Hebble found themselves down 6-1 but fought back winning five straight games to tie the match 6-6. Toledo would then go up 7-7 but then scored two straight games to win the doubles point for the Cardinals and the match 9-7.
Ball State headed into singles play up 2-0 after Toledo had to default its match at the No. 6 spot. The Rockets then took the 3-2 edge over the Cardinals after posting victories on courts two, three and five. Hebble came back in the third set at No. 4 singles after being down 6-5 and won in the tie breaker 7-6 (2) over Pitt. Wild then beat Anonsen in straight sets on court one, 7-5, 7-5, given Ball State the victory.
The No. 9 Ball State women's tennis team will face No. 1 Miami, Friday at host Northern Illinois with the match beginning at 11 a.m. (EST).
