Baseball Travels To No. 13 Purdue Wednesday

Ball State steps out of Mid-American Conference play Wednesday afternoon as it travels to West Lafayette, Ind., for a meeting with No. 13 Purdue ... Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Lambert Field in the Cardinals return trip of a home-and-home series ... Wednesday's game begin a stretch of 11 road games in the Cardinals' final 14 regular season games.

Probable Starting Pitchers. . . 
Ball State will send freshman right-hander Scott Baker to the hill Wednesday afternoon, but will use multiple pitchers in the non-conference contest ... Purdue will counter with left-hander Calvin Gunter.

Baker will be making his 13 appearance and fourth start of the season Wednesday ... He has a 6.84 ERA in 26.1 innings of work while striking out 24 and walking 21 batters ... He started last week against Northwestern Ohio working 4.1 innings and allowing four runs on five hits in the no decision.

Gunter will be making his 10th appearance and eighth start of the season Wednesday ... He as a 2-1 record with a 4.28 ERA in 33.2 innings as he has struck out 18 and walked 20 batters ... He worked 2.0 innings last week against Illinois-Chicago in relief and allowed just one hit.

Series History . . .
Wednesday's game marks the 84th meeting all-time between Ball State and Purdue, dating back to April 11, 1930 ... The Cardinals trail the all-time series by a 47-34-2 record as they have dropped five straight in the series and seven out of the last eight meetings.

Earlier this season, Purdue recorded a 15-2 victory over the Cardinals in Ball Diamond ... The Boilermakers scored 12 runs in the sixth inning to break open a 3-2 contest ... Cameron Perkins leads the Boilermakers with a .384 batting average ... Perkins also leads the team in hits (58), RBI (43), runs (38), doubles (10) and home runs (6) ...
