CHICAGO, Ill. - Ball State men's tennis coach Bill Richards earned his 600th career win Sunday after the Cardinals beat Chicago State 7-0.
Ball State improved its overall record for the season to 15-8 and evens its Mid-American Conference ledger to 1-1.
The Cardinals began by winning on all three doubles courts to take a 1-0 edge in the match. At the top position, the pair of Zane Smith and Derek Carpenter won 8-0 over Mario Naboa and Serqui Muresan. Dalton Albertin and Austin Smith secured an 8-1 victory on court two while teammates Patrick Elliott and Austin Sanson won at the No. 3 spot by a score of 8-0.
In singles, the Cardinals took all six matches in straight sets. Sansone didn't give up a point at No. 6 singles winning his match 6-0, 6-0.
The victory marks Richards 600th overall win and now is one-win shy of reaching 200 conference victories with an overall MAC mark of 199. The Ball State tennis team continues league action as it hosts Toledo Thursday at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center. The match will begin at 3 p.m.
