One of the top distance runners in program history, Ali Bishel is in her second season as an assistant coach for the Ball State track & field and cross country programs in 2012-13. Bishel's primary focus on staff will be the development of the program's distance runners.

"We are very excited to have Ali remain part of the Ball State cross country and track & field family," said Heisler. "As a five-time Mid-American Conference champion and three-time NCAA Championship participant for Ball State, Ali knows what it takes to excel at the collegiate level. As a student assistant, she helped our distance corps produce numerous career-best times last spring. Her endless energy and drive to succeed will help our distance program develop into one of the top squads in the conference."

A four-year letterwinner for the Cardinals in both cross country and track & field  (2006-2011), Bishel served as a student assistant coach for the Ball State outdoor track & field program during the 2011 season after exhausting her eligibility.

"I am thrilled Randy, the athletics staff and the team have welcomed me into this new position," said Bishel. "I really enjoyed my experiences as a student-athlete at Ball State and accomplished more than I ever imagined possible. I am extremely lucky for this opportunity to give back to the student-athletes and help ensure they have the best experience possible as both a student and athlete."

During her collegiate career at Ball State, Bishel advance to the NCAA Cross Country Championships twice (2007 and 2009) and placed 16th in the 5,000m run at the 2008 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Most Outstanding Track Performer at the 2009 MAC Indoor Championships, Bishel captured MAC indoor titles in the 5,000m run (2009), 3,000m run (2009 & 2008), mile run (2008) and distance medley relay (2008).

The school record holder in the 5,000m run (16.21.66), Bishel was named to the 2008-09 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team, as well as the 2008 U.S. TFCCCA All-Academic Team. She earned First Team All-MAC accolades four times over her career, while picking up second team honors once. She also garnered seven Academic All-MAC honors.
