MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State athletics director Tom Collins announced the coaching contracts of head field hockey coach Annette Payne and head women's soccer coach Michael Lovett will not be renewed.

Payne recently completed her seventh season as the head field hockey coach at Ball State and her ninth year with the program.  After serving as an assistant coach for the Cardinals in 2001 and 2002, Payne was elevated to head coach July 1, 2003.  She was just the fifth coach in the 35-year history of field hockey at the university.  Payne managed a 35-96 overall record, including a 24-46 Mid-American Conference mark.

Lovett completed his second season as Ball State's head soccer coach this fall.  He guided the Cardinals to a 13-23-2 overall record and a 7-13-2 MAC mark in his two seasons.  Lovett was the third head coach in Ball State's 11-year history.

The assistant coaches -- Liz Sanders (field hockey) and Amber Alexander (soccer) -- contracts for both programs were also not renewed.
