Fresh off back-to-back shutout victories to open the season, the Ball State soccer team is back in action for two more contests this weekend.
The Cardinals (2-0) will visit Purdue for a 7 p.m. matchup Friday and then return home to host Morehead State at 2 p.m. Sunday. The Purdue game will be streamed on Big Ten Network Plus at btn2go.com. The Morehead State game will feature a live radio broadcast from WCRD at ballstatesports.com.
Ball State will be playing Purdue for the first time since 2009. The Boilermakers hold a 2-1 lead in the all-time series. Purdue (1-1) played two Mid-American Conference opponents last weekend, falling to Miami University and defeating Ohio.
Sunday’s meeting with Morehead State (1-0-1) will be the first ever between the two teams. The Eagles are coming off an Ohio Valley Conference Tournament championship last season.
Ball State is off to a 2-0 start for the second year in a row. The Cardinals opened the season with consecutive shutouts for only the second time in the 16-year history of the program and the first time since 2001.
Gabby Veldman scored goals against both IPFW and Green Bay last weekend with both of them proving to be game-winners. Madison Oyer, Franziska Sottner and Abbey Fiser accounted for the other Ball State goals as the Cardinals outscored the opposition by a 5-0 margin.
Brooke Dennis played all 180 minutes between the posts in the season-opening weekend to record both shutouts. She was the last line of defense for a Ball State defensive unit that surrendered only six shots on goal through the two games.
