GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Gabby Veldman scored her second goal in as many games, and the Ball State soccer team posted its second straight win to begin the season.

The Cardinals went on the road Sunday to post a 2-0 victory at Green Bay, improving their record to 2-0. Green Bay, which was coming off a win over IUPUI, dropped to 1-1 on the year.

"We played very well," Ball State coach Craig Roberts said. "Green Bay is a big, strong, physical team, but I thought we matched up with them and did well to make sure that wasn't a factor."

Abbey Fiser scored the second goal for Ball State, which outscored its opponents by a combined 5-0 margin in the season's opening weekend.

Brooke Dennis made four saves in goal Sunday to record her second shutout of the season and her fifth in 10 career starts. The sophomore from Wauconda, Ill., has teamed with the Ball State back line to hold opponents scoreless through the first 180 minutes of the season.

"Defensively, we were very solid with the back four and Brooke in goal.” Roberts said. “Green Bay is a seasoned team with some quality players. They were threatening in their attacks, but we did a really good job denying them from good scoring opportunities."

Veldman, a sophomore from South Bend, has scored the first goal in both games this season, and both of them have proved to be game-winners. She fired a shot Sunday from 25 yards out that found the top left corner of the net in the 27th minute.

It remained a one-goal lead until when Fiser's first goal of the season in the 68th minute extended the advantage. Cailey Starck crossed a corner kick into the box, and Victoria Jacobs headed it down to Fiser who was there to finish.

Ball State is off to a 2-0 start for the second straight year and returns to action next weekend. The Cardinals will travel to Purdue for a 7 p.m. contest Friday and then return to Muncie to host Morehead State at 2 p.m. Sunday.
