Indiana Open Championship Full of Cardinals

ROUND 3 UPDATE: McCormick Clouser and Michael VanDeventer each lost one shot to par Wednesday but remained in the top 10 through three rounds. Clouser sits alone in fourth place at 8 under par, while VanDeventer is tied for sixth at 6 under. Four Ball State alumni join that duo in the top 25, inlcuding Eric Steger (Even, T-15), C.D. Hockersmith (+1, T-20), Scott Pieri (+2, T-23) and Jon Hoover (+2, T-23). The final round will be played Thursday with 13 current Cardinals or Ball State alumni still in the field.

COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Six members of the 2014-15 Ball State men’s golf team and 13 Ball State alumni are in the field for this week’s Indiana Open Championship at Otter Creek Golf Course.

The 72-hole tournament began Monday morning and runs through Thursday. Results will be posted after each round on the Indiana Golf Office website.

Rising senior McCormick Clouser is teeing it up along with rising juniors Derek Kundenreich and Tyler Ostrom. Sophomore-to-be Keegan McKinney and incoming freshmen Michael VanDeventer and Johnny Watts are also competing.

The crew of Ball State alumni in the field includes Tim Frazier (1991), John Gordon (1994), C.D. Hockersmith (2007), Jon Hoover (1989), Tony Lazzara (2013), Rusty Mason (1990), Tyler Merkel (2014), Scott Pieri (1990), Andrew Rhodes (2009), Skip Runnels (1975), Eric Steger (2011), Zac Treash (2011) and Brodie Williams (2013).

Steger was the runner-up in last year’s event at The Hawthorns Golf & Country Club in Fishers, while Merkel tied for second two years ago at French Lick Resort. The last Ball State player to win the championship was Brian Maurer in 2011.
