Sean Godfrey Excels in Professional Baseball Debut

Ball State baseball alum Sean Godfrey made his professional baseball debut for the Danville Braves of the Rookie Appalachian League and went 2-for-2 from the plate with a pair of doubles and two runs-batted-in.

Godfrey, who was drafted by the Major League Baseball Atlanta Braves, helped Danville to an 8-4 win over Kingsport in the season opener.  Godfrey also walked in the contest and hit each of his doubles off the outfield wall.

He managed his first career hit in the top of the first with a double off the right field wall to score teammate Jose Morel.  In the bottom of the first, Godfrey tallied his first career putout when he snagged a line drive off the bat of Kingsport’s Luis Guillorme.  Godfrey walked in his second career at-bat in the second inning, and then doubled on a line drive off the left field wall in the fourth inning to drive in two runs.  Godfrey eventually scored in the fourth to give his team an 8-2 lead.

Godfrey, who was named to the Louisville Slugger Collegiate Baseball All-America Third Team, was named the 2014 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year as a senior outfielder for the Cardinals.  The American Baseball Coaches Association All-Region selection, batted .333 in 237 at-bats for the Cardinals in 2014 with nine home runs, 22 doubles and 57 runs-batted-in.  Godfrey ranks nationally in the latest NCAA statistics in doubles (9th), runs-batted-in (17th), total bases (30th with 128) and hits (45th with 79).
