Crawford Leads T&F On Day Two Of MAC Championships
ATHENS, Ohio - - Junior Christina Crawford (Belleville, Mich./Romulus) turned in an eighth-place showing in the long jump to lead the Ball State track & field team on the second day of the 2014 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by Ohio.
Through seven scored events at the three-day meet, Kent State holds the overall lead with 47 points. Miami is second with 33 points, followed by Akron (32), Bowling Green (31), Ohio (27), Central Michigan (25), Eastern Michigan (24), Toledo (20), Buffalo (17), Western Michigan (8), Northern Illinois (8) and Ball State (1).
With her eighth-place effort of 5.71m in the long jump, Crawford picked up the Cardinals’ first point of the 2014 MAC Outdoor Championships. Following her performance in the finals of the long jump, Crawford had a quick turnaround for her second event, the 100m dash, in which she placed 15th overall at 12.38.
In the day’s final event, Ball State’s junior twin sisters Courtney Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) and Caitlynn Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) placed 11th (11:13.47) and 19th (11:31.25), respectively, in the 3000m steeplechase.
In the 400m hurdles, sophomore Becca Kropf (Goshen, Ind./Fairfield) led a trio of Cardinals in the event by crossing the finish line in 1:03.31 to place 12th.
The Ball State track & field team is scheduled to compete in six events on the third and final day of competition Saturday, starting at 10:30 a.m. with discus and high jump.
