MUNCIE, Ind.  - -  After a highly successful showing last weekend, the Ball State outdoor track & field team will look to carry over the momentum into this weekend’s Dave Rankin Invitational hosted by Purdue at Rankin Track & Field.

The two-day meet gets underway Friday with the lone event being the hammer throw starting at 3 pm. Action picks up again Saturday with field events beginning at 10 am and running events at noon.

At last weekend’s RedHawk Invitational, the Cardinals scored three event wins and 15 career-best performances, including three marks which currently rank in the top 10 on the Mid-American Conference outdoor performance list.

Leading the way was junior Christina Crawford (Belleville, Mich./Romulus) with three career-best performances. Her best effort came in the long jump where she posted a MAC automatic qualifying mark for the fourth time in five meets with a career-best leap of 6.04m, which is the second-best long jump in the MAC this season. In the 100m dash, Crawford clocked a career-best time of 12.01 which is the ninth-best individual effort in the league this season. She also ranks 28th in the 200m dash after posting a career-best time of 25.27 last weekend.

In the 400m hurdles, freshman Makelle Skelton (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) climbed to 10th in the MAC rankings with a career-best run of 1:02.55 at the RedHawk Invitational. Skelton also ranks 19th in the conference in the long jump after a career-best mark of 5.52m at the Ball State Invitational (April 11).

Overall, Ball State enters the Dave Rankin Invitational with 14 student-athletes ranked in the top 20 in their respective events on the MAC outdoor performance list.

Junior Haley Austin (Avon, Ind./Avon) is the only other Ball State student-athlete ranked in the top 10 on the MAC performance list, as she holds the fifth spot in the high jump after posting a career-best and MAC outdoor championship automatic qualifying mark of 1.70m at the Cardinal Invitational.

In the 3000m steeplechase, Ball State’s junior twin sister duo of Courtney Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) and Caitlynn Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) are ranked 14th (11:16.02) and 16th (11:24.53), respectively, in the MAC.

In throws, senior Erin Walker (Laurell Hill, Fla./Paxton/Troy) ranks 14th in the MAC in the hammer throw (50.54m) and 16th in the discus (44.93m) with both marks coming at the Cardinal Invitational.

Sophomore Michaela Hull (Bloomington, Ind./South) is poised to qualify for the league meet in three events, ranking 13th in the javelin (35.63m), 18th in the discus (44.36m) and 24th in the shot put (11.97m).
