Men's S&D Places Four on MAC All-Academic Lists
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Mid-American Conference announced the 2014 Men’s Swimming and Diving MAC All-Academic Team and Honorable Mention list today, as voted by the faculty athletic representatives from the member MAC institutions. Ball State placed one on the MAC All-Academic Team and three on the Honorable Mention list.
Drew Tharp earned his third MAC All-Academic selection after earning MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week twice during the season. The senior advanced to the finals of the 100 and 200 fly at the 2014 MAC Championships.
Earning spots on the Honorable Mention list were Neal Fennig, Andrew Lamb and Conner Snare. This marks the first time in their respective careers that Fennig, Lamb and Snare have been recognized by the MAC for their excellence in academics.
The Cardinals earned a distinction earlier this year from the College Swimming Coaches Association of American for Scholar All-America Team after compiling a 3.18 team GPA during the fall semester. The GPA was the 28th-best in the nation.
A total of 23 student-athletes were named to the men’s MAC All-Academic team. The number of honorees on the MAC All-Academic Team is the number set for the specific sport of 33 percent of the number of nominees, whichever is greater.
The MAC All-Academic honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments for the current season are only considered.
