Ball State's baseball team suffered a 10-1 loss at the nation's 13th-ranked Indiana to fall to 27-14 overall after tallying only six hits in the contest.

"One bad inning got us," Ball State head coach Rich Maloney said.  "When playing an outstanding team you cannot afford to give them extra opportunities and in the sixth inning that's what we did.  To Indiana's credit they ran with our mistakes and then momentum got on their side and they rode it."

The Cardinals return to Mid-American Conference action Friday at Central Michigan in the first game of a three-game series.  The teams are scheduled for a 3 p.m. Friday first pitch and 1 p.m. games Saturday and Sunday.

Ball Stateis 11-3 in MAC games, while the Chippewas own a 12-3 league mark and a 25-15 overall record.

Against the Hoosiers, Ball State scored its lone run of the game in the second inning to tie the game at 1-1 before allowing the Hoosiers nine runs in the sixth inning.

The Cardinals' run came on a solo homerun by Kyle Raleigh over the right field wall on a 3-2 pitch and tied the game at 1-1.  Raleigh completed the day with a 2-for-3 performance from the plate plus pitched 0.2 innings, allowing no earned runs.

The sixth inning proved to be the difference in the game when the Hoosiers managed nine runs on seven hits and one Ball State error.

Clay Manering started on the mound for Ball State and pitched three innings, allowing only one earned run and striking out three.  Nestor Bautista allowed one run in two innings and struck out three Hoosiers, while five Cardinals pitched the final four innings as a staff.  Bautista suffered the loss to fall to 3-1 on the year.
