MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State women's tennis team will be the No. 2 seed in this weekend’s 2014 Mid-American Conference Tournament which will be hosted by the Miami RedHawks in Oxford, Ohio, at the Hepburn Varsity Tennis Courts (April 25-27).

“It is a privilege to make the tournament and every team in it has worked hard and had great results,” Ball State head women’s tennis coach Max Norris said.  “Every team in the tournament is good, so anyone can win it. We are excited to play on Saturday against whoever we draw, and we are excited to represent Ball State.  We will play with passion, and we will work as long and as hard as we need to in order to bring home a championship.”

The Cardinals will play their first tournament match April 26 against the winner of the No. 3 Eastern Michigan vs. No. 6 Bowling Green match which will be played Friday.  First serve for the Ball State match will be at 2 p.m.  Ball State became the second seed after its MAC sweep over Bowling Green (4-3) and Western Michigan (6-1) last weekend.  Ball State enters the tournament with a 16-8 overall mark, while finishing conference action with a 6-2 ledger.  The 16 wins are the most for Ball State since it won 16 in 1994-95. Ball State's 6-2 MAC record also marks the best finish in program history.  The most league wins prior to this season was five which happened on five different occasions, the last time being 2013-14 when Ball State finished 5-3.

Eastern Michigan comes to the tournament with a 13-8 campaign and ended league play with a 6-2 mark after finishing the regular season with a 6-1 win over Northern Illinois last Saturday.  During the regular season competition, Ball State defeated the Eagles in Ypsilanti 4-3 (April 12) for the first time since 1990.  The Cardinals could also face Bowling Green who owns an overall mark of 10-8 and a 4-4 MAC record.  Ball State recently defeated the Falcons 4-3 at home April 18.  The Cardinals had not accomplished that feat in eight years.
