MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State outdoor track & field team returns to action Friday, when it hosts the third annual Cardinal Invitational at University Track in the Briner Sports Complex. Admission to the meet is free.
Action begins at 2 pm with the hammer throw, long jump and pole vault. Track events are slated to begin at 3 pm with the 4x100m relay. The meet is scheduled to conclude at 5:25 pm with the 4x400m relay.
The meet will also serve as senior day for the Ball State track & field program which will honor Jorden Traver (Lafayette, Ind./Harrison), Erin Walker (Laurell Hill, Fla./Paxton/Troy University) and Madelyn Webster (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) following the 5000m run which is scheduled for 4:40 pm.
At last weekend’s Miami Invitational, the Cardinals finished the two-day meet with 163 points to place fourth among the 10 teams entered. Ball State’s student-athletes also combined to score 13 top three finishes and 23 career-best performances at the 29th annual running of the meet.
Entering this weekend’s Ball State Invitational, the Cardinals have 20 student-athletes ranked in the top 30 in the Mid-American Conference in their respective events.
Junior Christina Crawford (Belleville, Mich./Romulus) owns the team’s only automatic qualifying mark into the 2014 MAC Outdoor Championships and currently ranks fifth in the league with a career-best long jump of 5.93m.
Junior Haley Austin (Avon, Ind./Avon) is the highest-ranked Ball State student-athlete entering Friday’s home meet, holding the third spot in the high jump at 1.63m.
Other top 10 ranked Cardinals include; Zenée Gadson (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) in the triple jump (fifth at 11.22m), Courtney Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) in the 3000m steeplechase (eighth at 11:16.02) and Hannah Lange (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) in the 400m dash (ninth at 57.40).For the most up-to-date news on Ball State track & field, follow @bsuathletics and @BallStateTrack on Twitter.
