The Ball State women’s golf team tees it up in North Carolina this weekend in the first of two events remaining before the Mid-American Conference Championships.
The Cardinals will compete Saturday and Sunday at the UNCW Seahawk Classic. The 54-hole tournament is being contested at River Landing Golf Club in Wallace, N.C. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
Ball State junior Jenna Hague enters the tournament riding a streak of 10 consecutive top-10 finishes dating back to last season. Hague is ranked among the top 100 women’s golfers in the country and checks in this week at No. 44 in the Golfstat Cup race for adjusted stroke average.
She is joined in the Ball State lineup by a trio of seniors -- Meghan Perry, Mary Welch and Sarah Westaway -- and freshman Karley Dobis. The Cardinals have utilized the same five golfers in their lineup since the fourth event of the season.
The team is coming off an 11th-place finish March 24-25 at the UALR Women’s Golf Classic.
In addition to Ball State and tournament host UNC Wilmington, the eight-team field for this weekend’s tournament includes Delaware, Elon, Eastern Michigan, Longwood, Old Dominion, Radford and Richmond.
The Cardinals are competing at the Seahawk Classic for the second time but the first time since 2006. Ball State head coach Katherine Mowat competed in the inaugural event as a player for Louisville in 2001, finishing in a tie for seventh and helping her team take second place.
This weekend’s tournament features two rounds Saturday and the final round Sunday with shotgun starts at 8:45 a.m. both days. The par-72 layout at River Landing will be set up at 6,106 yards.
