Bickel hit .474 over Ball State's six games last week.
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State softball senior third baseman Audrey Bickel (Munster, Ind./Andrean) has been named the CollegeSportsMadness.com MAC Softball Player of the Week.
Bickel, who earns Madness MAC Player of the Week accolades for the first time in her career, helped guide the Cardinals to a 4-2 record last week by posting a team-leading .474 batting average and a team-high nine RBI over BSU’s six games. Bickel also collected a pair of game-winning RBI for the Cardinals, while leading the team with nine hits.
Bickel opened the week by driving in what proved to be the game-winning run versus Butler with a RBI single to right field in the sixth inning.
Her biggest game of the week came in Saturday’s 8-0 (5 inn) win over UMKC, when she accounted for five of BSU’s eight runs. With a bases loaded RBI groundout in the third inning, Bickel drove in what proved to be the game-winning run to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. She was not done in the contest, however, blasting her third career grand slam in the fifth inning, extending the Cardinals lead to 7-0.
Bickel and the Ball State softball team are scheduled to open the 2014 MAC season Friday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Buffalo. From there, the Cardinals are slated to play Kent State in single games Saturday (2 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.) at Akron's Lee R. Jackson Softball Field.
