MUNCIE, Ind. - After playing two matches on the road last week, the Ball State men's tennis team returns home to the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center to play three matches this weekend. The Cardinals host Dartmouth Friday at 3 p.m., before closing out the weekend Saturday against Illinois State at 1 p.m. and Anderson University at 6:30 p.m.
Ball State begins the weekend with a 4-4 overall record while Dartmouth 9-3 on the year. Illinois State comes to Muncie with a 4-3 mark and Anderson will be playing its first match of the season against the Cardinals Saturday.
The Cardinals are coming off losses at Xavier (6-1) Feb. 19 and No. 10 Notre Dame (4-0) Feb. 22. At Notre Dame, the Irish and the Cardinals participated in the 2014 College Match Day series which was streamed live on ESPN3 for the first time in program history. The competition between the two schools' was part of a trial format where the teams played singles first: Six best-of-three set singles matches (worth one point per match) to start each match. Four points was required to win the team match. Doubles would only be played in case of a tie.
After the matches this weekend, the Ball State men's tennis team begins a four-match road trip where the Cardinals will first face Vanderbilt (March 7) and Lipscomb (March 8) in Nashville, Tenn., before making their way west to Las Vegas, Nevada to take on North Dakota (March 14) and UNLV (March 15).
