MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team completed a weekend sweep Sunday afternoon with a 6-1 victory over IPFW in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center. The Cardinals have now won five in row improving their dual mark to 7-1 on the year while IPFW drops to 3-5 for the season.
The doubles tandem of Toni Ormond and Kristel Sanders gave the Cardinals their first doubles win of the day after defeating the Mastodons Miloslava Shustova and Emily Richardson 8-3 at the No. 2 spot. At No. 3 doubles Ashlyn Rang and Courtney Wild paired up for the 8-2 defeat over Carlota Trevino and Ella Norgren to claim the first point for Ball State.
The Cardinals headed into singles action with a 1-0 advantage over the Mastodons. Ball State took five of the six singles matches from IPFW. First off court two was Earnest who won in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 over Norgren. Ormond, Moore, Terashi and Rang then followed Earnest's lead and took their respective opponents down in two sets. Wild would put up a tough battle at No. 1 singles, after dropping the first set 7-5, Wild came back to win 6-3 in the second but would lose in the tie breaker.
The Ball State women's tennis team will continue its five-match homestand with a double-header Saturday, Feb. 22 against Marquette (12 p.m.) and Dayton (5 p.m.).
