MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team snapped its two-match losing streak after winning both of its matches Saturday at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center. The Cardinals started the afternoon with a 6-1 win over Eastern Illinois and went on to defeat Indiana Tech 7-0 in the night cap.
With the wins, Ball State improves to 4-2 on the season while Eastern Illinois falls to 1-2 and Indiana Tech drops to 0-1.
In the first match of the day, the Cardinals got off to a quick start by taking the doubles point from Eastern Illinois. Ray Leonard and Patrick Elliott earned an 8-5 victory over Robert Skolik and Kevin Bauman at the top doubles spot. Andrew Stutz paired up with teammate Patrick Downs for the 8-7 (3) defeat over Moritz Kandt and David Constantinescu at the No. 3 position.
In the second half of the doubleheader, Ball State was able to build off its first match momentum by sweeping Indiana Tech, 7-0. The Cardinals took all three doubles matches for the early 1-0 advantage over the Warriors. Ball State would then finish off Indiana Tech with straight set victories in all six singles matches.
The Ball State men's tennis team continues dual action Feb. 19, for a 1 p.m. match at Xavier.
