Men's Tennis Wins 5-2 Over IPFW

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team improved to 2-0 on the season after its 5-2 victory at home against IPFW Sunday afternoon in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.

The Cardinals won the doubles point after earning doubles victories on courts three and two.  Andrew Stutz and Patrick Downs were the first Ball State duo to finish as they defeated Jonathan Raa and Karl Wangensten-Oye by a score of 6-2.  Austin Smith and Lucas Andersen also won by a score of 6-2 as they beat Gerard Guell and Martin Muadi.

At No. 2 singles, Patrick Elliott put the Cardinals up 2-0 over the Mastodons, taking Raa down in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.  Lucas Andersen gave Ball State the 3-0 advantage with his 6-1, 6-2 win against Gerard Guell at No. 4.  Patrick Downs secured the victory for the Cardinals in straight sets over Wangensten-Oye, 6-0, 6-3.  Ray Leonard was also a winner on the day at No. 1 singles after his 6-4, 6-5 (6) triumph over Daniel Kang, 6-4, 6-5 (6).

The Ball State men's tennis team continue spring action Sunday, Jan. 26 when it hosts Cleveland State at 2 p.m. ‌in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
