Men's Swim and Dive Finishes Fourth at EMU Invite

YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Ball State men’s swimming and diving team finished in fourth place at the Eastern Michigan Invitational with 463 points on the heels of 18 individual season bests and three season bests in relays.

Freshmen Austin Green and Tanner Barton were among the high finishes for the Cardinals on the second day of competition. Green clocked a lifetime best 21.54 in the 50 free for seventh place while Barton finished with a season-best 51.60 in the 100 fly for seventh place. Senior Drew Tharp finished sixth in the 100 fly with a season-best time of 51.18.

Barton posted his second top-10 finish of the night in the 200 IM with a season-best time of 2:00.91. Junior Drew Sullenbarger also clocked a season-best time with a 2:05.12 for 11th place. Sullenbarger also saw a season-best time in the 100 back with a 53.69. In the 400 IM, junior Conner Snare posted a season-best time of 4:27.34 for 10th place. Snare would also clock a season-best time in the 100 breast with a 1:04.11.

Also posting season-best times for Ball State include: freshman Bradley Ridge with a 54.88 in the 100 fly, junior Neal Fennig with a 1:46.92 in the 200 free, Green with a 1:47.45 in the 200 free, junior Andrew Lamb with a 1:47.56 in the 200 free, freshman Mitch Prather with a 1:02.71 in the 100 breast, senior Shane Brown with a 1:03.65 in the 100 breast and a 21.91 in the 50 free, sophomore Cole Smith with a 56.85 in the 100 back and senior Cameron Watters with a 57.12 in the 100 back and a 5:08.25 in the 500 free.

Senior diver Jake Brehmer posted a score of 255.85 on the 1-meter for sixth place.

In the relays, the 200 free, 400 medley and 800 free finished sixth while the 200 medley ended in seventh. The 200 medley of Sullenbarger, Prather, Tharp and Smith turned in a season-best time of 1:38.88 while the 400 medley of Sullenbarger, Prather, Tharp and Oaks also clocked a season-best time with a 3:36.52. The 800 free relay of Fennig, Barton, Lamb and Oaks finished with a season-best 7:07.91.

The Ball State men’s swimming and diving team will take a break from competition and return to action on Jan. 10 when it travels down to Indianapolis to battle IUPUI and Xavier. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
