Men's Volleyball Opens MIVA Play at Worthen

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State men’s volleyball team bring its 5-0 record to Worthen Arena to open up a five-match home stand by hosting MIVA foes Quincy and Lindenwood this weekend. The Cardinals most recently picked up victories at Mount Olive (25-19, 26-28, 25-22, 25-20) and Barton College (25-15, 25-12, 25-13).

Ball State leads the MIVA in five of the seven statistical categories. BSU keeps its opponents hitting at .132, registers 13.06 assists per set, 13.94 kills per set, 3.39 blocks per set and 10.61 digs per set.

Three Cardinals are at the top of the MIVA in individual statistical categories. Junior middle attacker Matt Leske is the top blocker in the league with 1.73 blocks per set. Senior outside hitter Greg Herceg gets the most kills per set (4.57) and points per set (5.64). Junior libero Tommy Rouse gets under 3.07 digs per set.

The Hawks are 3-3 on the season and had this past weekend off from play. Quincy is holding its opponents to a .196 hitting percentage which is second in the MIVA. Ian Lawson and Jack Gamache led the offense with 3.14 kills per set a piece.

Friday’s match will mark the 43rd meeting between these two programs. Ball State holds a 38-4 advantage in the series all-time. The Cardinals won both matches last season in three sets. BSU has a 22-2 record against Quincy at Worthen Arena.

The Lions (0-2) opened up play with back-to-back matches with Ohio State. Lindenwood leads the conference in service aces with 1.67 naces per set. LU's Colin Hackworth leads the offense with 4.00 kills per set, while Logan Jarrus leads the MIVA with a .550 hitting percentage (11-0-20).

Saturday's match will be the sixth meeting between Ball State and its new conference foe Lindenwood. The teams split the two meetings last season, with each squad winning on its home court.  The Cardinals are a flawless 4-0 at Worthen against the Lions.
