Football Holds Annual Golf Outing

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State football program held its annual Ray Louthen Memorial Alumni Golf Tournament on Friday, June 15, at the The Players Club in Yorktown, Ind.

"It was great to welcome a large group of football lettermen back last Friday," said Ball State head football coach Pete Lembo. "Several members of Ball State's first bowl team from 1965 were able to reconnect in a meaningful way. I also appreciate former coach Brady Hoke taking time out of his busy schedule to come back to see us. We are working hard to promote a sense of family with all generations of the program and Friday was another positive step forward."

The event started off with a barbeque lunch catered by Grand Grilling To Go of Muncie, followed by a 1 p.m. shotgun start. The Ball State assistant coaches were stationed at each hole to meet and greet each foursome. At the completion of the event, there was a dinner and an awards program. The members of the 1965 team were introduced and received a standing ovation from everyone in attendance. In addition, Coach Lembo and the coordinators provided an update on the program and a preview of the 2012 season.

Former football letterwinners Kyle West, Phil Donahue, Rick Scott and Gus Nierman combined to shoot a 14-under par score of 58 in the Florida Scramble format to win the golf outing.

Ball State also welcomed back former head coach and football letterwinner Brady Hoke who spent time visiting with Lembo and the participating alumni.
