Muncie, Ind. - - Ball State outdoor track & field redshirt junior multi-event specialist Thekla Lorenz (Hamburg, Germany) has been named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team as announced by the league office.

Lorenz, a psychology major with a 3.833 grade-point average, picks up the award for the fourth time in her career, having earned it in each of the past two indoor and outdoor campaigns.

During the 2011 outdoor season, Lorenz earned Second Team All-MAC accolades after placing second in the heptathlon at the MAC Outdoor Championships with a score of 4893 points. She placed second among the heptathlon competitors in the long jump (18-07.75), javelin throw (112-08) and shot put (37-11.50), place third among the heptathlon competitors in 100m hurdles (14.88), high jump (4-11.50) and 200m dash (26.13) and was fourth among the heptathlon competitors in the 800m run (2:31.71).

In addition to her performance in the heptathlon, Lorenz placed eighth in the long jump (18-7.25) and 10th in the javelin throw (114-8) at the MAC Championships with season-best efforts in both events.

Lorenz was one of 28 student-athletes to earn recognition on the squad, which is voted on by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions. To earn Academic All-MAC honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50% of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.

In addition to Lorenz's honor, sophomore MaryKate Mellen (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City H.S.), redshirt sophomore Madeline Goheen (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger H.S.) and redshirt freshman Melissa Dodaro (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg H.S.) were honored on the Academic All-MAC Honorable Mention Team.
