Ball State’s football team was selected to finish third in the Mid-American Conference West Division in the league’s 2014 preseason poll, which was announced at the MAC Football Media Day at Ford Field in Detroit, Mich.

Bowling Green and Toledo were chosen to win the East and West Divisions respectfully in the poll, which is determined by members of the league’s media members.  Bowling Green was also selected to win the 2014 Marathon MAC Football Championship Game.  In the last five years the conference has witnessed six different programs compete in the Marathon MAC Football Championship Game and in just the last three years, 10 different MAC football programs have appeared in a bowl game.  Ball State has played in back-to-back bowl games – the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s St. Petersburg Bowl after the 2012 season and the GoDaddy Bowl after the 2013 campaign.

Toledo was picked to win the West with 114 points, while Northern Illinois was picked second in the West Division and totaled 110 total points.  Ball State was selected third with 82 points, while Central Michigan garnered 67 points, including two first place votes.  Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan rounded out the West Division.

Under the direction of fourth-year head football coach Pete Lembo, Ball State will kick off the 2014 season Sat., Aug. 30, with a home game vs. Colgate in Scheumann Stadium.  The Cardinals play six games at Scheumann Stadium in 2014, including five on Saturdays.  Ball State – the only team in the nation to increase its win total in each of the last four seasons – kicks off the 2014 campaign at 2 p.m. on Aug. 30 versus Colgate.  Season tickets are now on sale and prices begin at less than $8 per game.  Visit for more pricing plans.
