Four tenths of a second. The time it takes a baseball to travel the 60 feet, 6 inches from the pitcher's mound to home plate.

Following his sophomore season, Jacob Brewer was having the summer of his life, pitching for the Lake Erie Monarch’s in the Great Lake’s summer league.

However, in four tenths of a second, everything changed.

“I ended up throwing the hardest I have ever thrown on that game," Brewer said.  "When I got off the mound, I felt great because I topped off and then all of a sudden I noticed that my arm was real, real tight. I was like holy cow, I don’t know if I can extend it all the way.”

Ball State Sports Link has the exclusive story on Brewer's return following Tommy John surgery.  Now, Brewer is back on the mound for the 26th-ranked Cardinals.

Ball State is 38-16 overall and 22-4 in the Mid-American Conference, earning the MAC Regular-Season Championship, the MAC West Division and the No. 1 seed in the MAC Tournament which begins May 21.

Produced by Luke Martin, Brad Dailey and Chris Kosinski.
