Women’s Tennis Earns 4-3 Win Over BGSU In MAC Action
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team (15-8, 5-2 MAC) claimed a 4-3 victory over Bowling Green (10-7, 4-3 MAC) at Cardinal Creek Tennis Center Friday in Mid-American Conference action.
"It was a great team win today," said Ball State head women's tennis coach Max Norris. "We had a great collective effort in doubles and in singles I thought we fought hard throughout. It was great to see us pull out wins at the middle of our lineup. We are excited to compete and represent Ball State tomorrow."
Ball State swept all three doubles matches to take the point from Bowling Greend early on in the match. Kristel Sanders and Toni Ormond were the first duo off the court after posting an 8-2 win over Katie Brozovich and Nikki Chiricosta. At No. 3 doubles, the twosome of Courtney Wild and Ayaka Terash defeated the Falcons Hannah Drayton and Harley Hutchinson, 8-4 which claimed the double point for Ball State. Courtney Earnest and Bethany Moore rounded out the wins at the No. 1 position with a 8-7 (5) victory over Drew Fillis and Emily Reuland.
In singles action, Terashi beat Drayton in straight sets on court four to put the Cardinals up 2-0. Earnest then dropped a 7-5, 6-0 decision at the No. 1 spot to give Bowling Green its first point of the competition. After that, Moore and Sanders would each win their matches in straight sets in their respective positions. For the second straight MAC competition Sanders match was the deciding point for the Cardinals. Bowling Green took the last two points from Ball State but the Cardinals had already won the match 4-3.
The Ball State women's tennis team will close out its Mid-American Conference regular season Saturday against Western Michigan at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center with a 1 p.m. first serve.
After this weekend, Ball State will compete at the 2014 MAC Tournament in Oxford, Ohio hosted by Miami University (April 25-27).
