MUNCIE, Ind. – Legendary coach and 1984 Olympic bronze medalist Beth Anders will be visiting the Ball State field hockey team this weekend. She spent 30 years as the head coach at Old Dominion and has experienced success internationally as well.

"I am looking forward to visiting Beth [Maddox] and the Ball State field hockey team," said Anders. "Growing a program is a journey, but they have nothing but the best in front of them. I am also excited to see Dr. Jo Ann Gora. She was a major influence in Old Dominion's honor program and an ally for our sports programs, especially women's athletics".

Anders has earned the distinction of CAA Coach of the Year 12 times in her career and has been inducted into the United States Field Hockey Coaches Association Hall of Fame (1989) and the Hamptons Roads Sports Hall of Fame (2011) and was named Olympic Athlete of the Year and Virginia Coach of the Year in 1984.

In her 30 year career at the helm of the Lady Monarchs program, Anders amassed a 560-136-7 (.802) winning percentage. Her 560 wins ranks second all-time among NCAA Division I coaches. She won a NCAA-record nine national titles in 28 NCAA Tournament appearances as well as 15 CAA titles.

Anders played in over 100 international matches during her playing career and won medals at the Olympics and the Pan American World Games. In 1991 she guided the U.S. National Team to a bronze medal and directed the qualifying campaign for the 1994 World Cup.

Anders will be on-site at the BSU Turf Field to watch her former player and Ball State head coach Beth Maddox guide the Cardinals. Ball State is 4-4 after picking up a win against UC Davis on Wednesday, Sept. 25 and will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 28 at noon.
