Baseball Loses MAC Championship to Bowling Green

AVON, Ohio -  The Ball State baseball team ended its season after losing the Mid-American Conference Championship Game Sunday afternoon by a score of 7-0 to Bowling Green at All Pro Freight Stadium.

With the loss the Cardinals drop to 31-24 on the season, while the Falcons improve to 24-29.  Ball State had knocked off Miami University and defeated four- time MAC Tournament Champion Kent State twice to advance to the title game.

Despite the loss, Scott Baker, T.J. Weir and Sam Tidaback were named to the MAC All-Tournament Team.

Baker suffered the loss on the mound for the Cardinals after four innings of work, giving up six runs off of six hits while striking out four batters.  Tyler Jordan also threw a total of 4.1 innings and gave up no runs and only four hits while retiring one batter.

After four scoreless innings, Bowling Green crossed the plate seven times in the top of the fifth.  The Falcons scored after seven hits and one error.  Maloney took Baker off  the mound and replaced him with Jon Cisna.  Cisna then got sent back to the dugout and Tyler Jordan took over.  Jordan would finish the contest for Ball State.

The Cardinals were able to put two on base in the bottom of the sixth after singles from pinch hitter Kevin Schlotter and Sean Godfrey but were unable to score.  Ball State would remain scoreless the remainder of the contest.

Tidaback led all hitters in the MAC Tournament with a .600 batting average in his three games.  He was 6-for-10 with a triple, a home run, two runs scored, four runs-batted-in and 11 total bases.  Weir batted .364 in three games and was 4-for-11 from the plate with four runs scored, one home run and two RBI.  In addition, Weir recorded a pitching victory in Ball State’s third game of the tournament when threw his first complete game of the season improving his mound record to 4-2.  He pitched nine innings, giving up one run on seven hits, while striking out seven batters in Ball State’s 3-1 win Friday over Kent State.  Baker, the MAC Pitcher of the Year, managed a 1-1 record with one save in Ball State’s four tournament contests.
