WBB Earns 53-46 Victory at Home Over IPFW

MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State improved to 1-3 on the season with a 53-46 win over visiting IPFW Monday night in Worthen Arena.  The win marked the first for first-year head coach Brady Sallee.  IPFW fell to 1-2 overall.

Katie Murphy led the Cardinals with a double-double, tallying 12 points and a personal best performance of 14 rebounds.  Nathalie Fontaine added a career-high 15 points, while Brittany Carter added eight points, five assists and four steals for the Cardinals.

Ball State would lead the entire second half despite IPFW putting together a 9-0 run that brought them within one point (42-41) with 4:24 left in the contest.  The Cardinals kept their composer and never lost their lead after some crucial buckets from Fontaine and making their free throws down the stretch, Ball State was able to secure its victory.

The Cardinals came out of the gates fast in the opening minutes of the contest scoring six straight points after baskets from Fontaine, sophomore guard Shelbie Justice and Carter to give the Ball State the early 6-0 edge over IPFW.

The Cardinals continued its hot scoring earning their biggest lead of the game 24-13 with 2:02 remaining after Fontaine knocked down a free throw.  Ball State ended the half up 26-19 over IPFW while holding the Mastodons to only a 29.6 shooting percentage.

The Ball State women's basketball will begin a four game road swing Thursday when it travels to Bethune Cookman (Nov. 23) and Stetson (Nov. 25). The Cardinals will then compete at Murray State (Nov. 29) and Austin Peay (Dec. 1) before returning home Dec. 6 against Detroit Mercy.
