MUNCIE, Ind. -- For the second time this season, and the sixth time in her career, Ball State women's volleyball junior libero Catie Fredrich (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week.
Fredrich turned in one of the most impressive performances of her career last Friday at Eastern Michigan, dominating all backcourt players with 29 digs in a three-set victory. The 29 digs helped her move into fifth in program history as she enters the MAC Tournament with 1,350 career digs. She also posted a perfect reception percentage in the match, successfully passing all 19 serves she faced.
In Saturday's five-set thriller at CMU, Fredrich once again led all players with 24 digs, while turning in an even more impressive effort in serve receive, successfully passing 41 CMU service attempts with no errors.
Fredrich, who averaged 6.62 digs per set in BSU's two matches last week, enters the MAC Tournament ranked first in the conference with a 5.06 average for the season. In league play, she posted a 4.88 average to rank fifth in the MAC. Fredrich also boasts a .981 reception percentage for the year, with just eight reception errors in 430 attempts.
Fredrich and the Ball State women's volleyball team opens play in the 2012 Mid-American Conference Tournament Friday afternoon, when it battles top-seeded Ohio in the 4:30 p.m. quarterfinal match at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
