MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State softball junior outfielder Jennifer Gilbert (McKinney, Texas/McKinney) is one of 26 players who will take part in the 2012 Canadian Senior Women's National Team Selection Camp which runs June 15-22, in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Following the selection camp, the team's first game will take place Saturday, June 23, when Team Canada squares off against the United States in the Title IX 40th Anniversary Celebration Game at 6 p.m. (CT) in Oklahoma City.
The team's first tournament will also take place in Oklahoma City, as it competes in the US World Cup of Softball VII from June 28-July 2. The team is also scheduled to play in the Canadian Open Fastpitch Women's International Championship in Surrey, British Columbia (July 4-9) and the ISF XIII Women's World Championship in Whitehorse, Yukon (July 13-22).
The 2012 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year and a member of the NFCA All-Great Lakes Region First Team, Gilbert has played in numerous international competitions as part of the Canadian National Team Program over the past three years.
This past December, Gilbert (who was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) helped guide the Canadian Junior Women's National Team to a fifth-place showing at the ISF IX Junior Women's World Championship in Cape Town, South Africa (Dec. 6-17). In the event, Gilbert hit .411 with 14 hits in 34 at bats, including a grand slam. Gilbert also played for the 2010 Canadian Junior Women's National Team and the 2009 Canadian Women's U16 National Team.
