BALL STATE:  Majoring in pre-medicine . . . 2011-12:  Captured an overall mark of 23-14 for the season while earning a 14-11 record in dual action along with a 3-2 Mid-American Conference mark . . . Went 10-10 in doubles play . . . Opened fall action with three straight victories over Marquette, Wisconsin and Northwestern . . . Recorded nine straight wins during spring competition from Jan. 28 to March 4 . . . Earned straight set MAC regular season victories against Toledo given Bill Richards his 200th career conference win and Buffalo to end the season.  2010-11:  Earned an over dual mark in the spring of 5-8 with his first collegiate win over IPFW in straight sets.  Fall 2010:  posted a 1-1 singles mark and went 4-2 in doubles action.

HIGH SCHOOL: Four star recruit out of five stars on tennisrecruiting.net . . . ranked 133rd in the nation after completing his senior season this fall . . . owned a No. 16 ranking in the Midwest and was ranked No. 1 in the state as a senior . . . garnered First Team All-State all four years . . . helped North High School to a fourth place showing in 2007 and third place in 2008.

PERSONAL:  Son of Greg and Terralin Smith . . . born on June 7, 1991 in Columbus, Ind. . . . has two sisters Allie and Aubrey . . . full name is Austin Larden Smith . . . Smith continues a family tradition by signing with Ball State . . . his mother, Terralin Schurr Smith, is a Muncie native and lettered in tennis at Ball State from 1981-84 . . . she played under former head coach Eloise Wiertel . . . Smith's grandfather Terry Schurr is a retired Ball State professor and lettered for the Ball State men's basketball team from 1956-58.
